Laser Hair Reduction

Excess and unwanted hair is a common problem for both men and women. Luckily, advanced laser technologies are putting an end to tiresome tweezing, waxing and shaving. Laser Hair reduction is a safe effective treatment to reduce and even remove unwanted hair. Light and heat pass through the skin to be absorbed by the hair follicle without damaging the skin. Multiple treatments are necessary for optimal results.

How does Laser Hair Reduction work?

The energy of the laser is absorbed by the actively growing hair, heating it and damaging it. This damage causes permanent destruction of many of the hair follicles. Hair grows in cycles and the laser can only destroy active follicles, therefore, multiple treatments are needed.

Is the hair removal permanent?

The majority of patients need 6-8 treatments for permanent hair reduction. Some patients may have some residual hair growth. The residual hair is usually lighter and finer and can be treated with occasional maintenance treatments.

What should I do before and after treatment?

We request that you shave the area the day before treatment. If you cannot shave, we can do it for you, but please call us to make arrangements for a shaving appointment. There will be a nominal charge, depending on the area. You must not bleach, pluck or wax for 3 weeks prior to treatment. Avoid the sun 2 to 3 weeks before and after the treatment.

Why does the hair sometimes look like its still growing 1-3 weeks after the laser treatment?

The laser destroys the hair roots, but does not remove the hair shafts instantly. Hair shafts in the treated hair follicles will fall out mostly in the first week after treatment, with all the treated hair falling out within 2-3 weeks. These hairs, which are being shed, will come out on their own. It is normal that some hairs in the treated area may not fall out. These hairs will be treated in the next session.
